When I think of Phil, there are certain images that accompany those thoughts; at family gatherings, celebrating a special event, or photos of him on his boat, or on the road as i waved as he drove by in his beloved Shelby. But, of all those memories, the one thing I remember more vividly is what a strong character he possessed.
Phil will always be in my thoughts.

Dear Carol, Pamela, Gwyn, Matthew and family, I am sorry sorry to hear about Phil. I had lunch with Phil years ago before his surgery. I knew right away how special of a man he was. He fought valiantly and refused to give up no matter what the odds. He was an inspiration to our group helping many members by sharing his journey and struggles. I pray that you all hold nothing but happy memories in your hearts forever.

I am sure angels are hurrying to welcome Phil just now, and I believe he will grace Heaven as he graced so many in his life on earth. His love for his family was always evident, as was his love for doing the right thing and doing things right. My heart goes out to each of you who loved him so much.

For Carol, Pam, Gwyn. Matt and all Phil's grandchildren,
I will remember your Phil for his indomitable strength of will. But most of all, I will remember the important words of encouragement he gave me with a difficult life decision and I will try to borrow some of his bravery when I need some fortitude at my back. My deepest condolences and sympathy to you all, dear friends.

Phil was a person I met at the West End Boat Club. Our boats were placed in the same area close to each other.
During a very windy storm, part of the cover he had blew off and hit our boat. Phil's repair was of expert quality and during that time we established an acquaintance.
I always enjoyed seeing him at the club and the conversations we had that ranged from boats to Cobra's and other topics.
Phil was the consummate gentleman and I will miss him.
My best to Carol and the family. Stay strong, Phil would want that.

I am an employee of Mr. Girvin's daughter Pamela and have only seen him twice in the almost four years since the first time I met him, yet I will never forget the words and advice he shared with me in a brief conversation about him never regretting, seeking God for His plan and will for his life and obeying them as God would reveal them. We were attending a Christmas party where he was Santa and I just really appreciated that he didn't think it robbery to take those few minutes to encourage me. My continued prayers are with Pamela and the family for God comfort and peace. God Bless You. Theresa

Captain Phil Girvin, we will miss you very much! I have enjoyed all of the years we spent together at GIYS. Every year in June I looked forward to seeing you and the family arrive on "Hurrying Angel" as you rounded the bend at Goat Point on the Magothy River as you entered GI harbor! Those were your proudest moments, spending time with your lovely family and being on the boat! You have much to be proud of. I will not say good by, but only until we meet again! May you have fair winds and calm seas on you're new journey that lies ahead. God Bless & RIP
