HELMIG Marie (nee MacIntosh), passed into eternal life on October 24, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Marie is survived by her husband of 57 years, Edward Helmig and their eight children; Edward G. (Debbie), Marie Keith, Lynn McLaughlin (Ed), Lori Leach (Joe), Geriann Conrad, Janet Spano (Rick), Jim Helmig (Chrissy) and Christine Mancini (Rob). Grandmother to 24 including the late Andrew Mihalek and great-grandmother to 5. Marie was an active resident at Broomall Presbyterian Home during the last two years of her life and brought a smile to the faces of many residents and staff on a daily basis. Born and raised in Southwest Philadelphia, Marie was the second of three daughters born to Bill MacIntosh and Eleanor Dwyer. She was a graduate of Most Blessed Sacrament (MBS) grade school and West Catholic for Girls. She worked as a secretary for several years before marrying her husband. Her sisters, Eleanor Helmig (Robert) and her younger sister, Carol Spahr (Bill) were great friends and often vacationed together in Sea Isle City, NJ. Marie and her sister Eleanor married brothers and the couples 13 children are all graduated from Cardinal O’Hara High School in Springfield, PA. Marie and Ed were married in 1961 and started their family the following year. At one point in the mid 70’s, Marie and Ed had eight children in Sacred Heart School in Havertown. Later they moved to Springfield where Marie was a busy homemaker and member of the St. Francis choir. Marie had a great love of song and was often asked to sing at weddings and events. When Ed retired the couple moved to Broomall and became fixtures at St. Pius X Church, celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with a Mass and party in May 2011. Marie was a devoted wife to Ed and loved her children and grandchildren with all her heart. Always ready to listen and willing to help in any way she could. Marie was always thoughtful and interested in what her family members were doing. Her greatest joy was Ed and her family, and her faith in Jesus enabled her to endure some significant suffering over the final years of her life. Relatives and friends are invited to her Visitation on Tuesday, Oct. 30th from 12 Noon to 1:15 PM at St. Pius X Church, 220 Lawrence Road, Broomall, PA 19008. Funeral Mass to follow at 1:30 PM. Inurnment Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Marie’s memory may be made to Office of Philanthropy-Presby Inspired Life, 200 Joshua Rd.
