Our beloved father, Edward J. Helmig, passed away on June 17, 2023, at the age of 89 at Rosewood Gardens in Broomall, PA.

Ed was born in North Philadelphia on November 12, 1933. He attended St. Peter’s Elementary School, where he was proud to serve as an altar boy, and Roman Catholic High School excelling in track and cross country, rightly earning the name “Fast Eddie”. He then joined Local 173 and became a Master Carpenter, with many of his side projects on display in his children’s homes.  Ed and his wife, Marie, fell in love through letter-writing while Ed served in the Army stationed in Korea. Ed and Marie enjoyed vacationing in Sea Isle and Siesta Key, and shared a love of faith and family. They would have been married 62 years.

He leaves behind his eight children, Edward Helmig (Deborah), Marie Keith (James Rothschild), Eleanor McLaughlin (Edward), Lori Leach (Joseph), Geriann Conrad, Janet Spano (Rick), James Helmig (Christine) and Christine Mancini (Robert), 22 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, as well as his sister, Clare Helmig. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie (MacIntosh), parents, Aloysius and Gertrude (Emig) and, grandsons, Andrew Mihalek and John Paul Helmig, as well as his brothers, Gerard (Ed’s twin) and Robert.

The family will receive guest Friday, June 23, 2023, from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 220 Lawrence Road, Broomall, PA, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30pm. The Rite of Committal will follow at S.S. Peter & Paul Cemetery. All friends and family are welcome.
